First Thursday State College will continue its celebration of the arts on September 2nd with exhibits, performances, and activities at locations throughout downtown State College and the Penn State campus. Participants will be identified by posters on the sidewalk outside the event venue. Unless otherwise noted, admission to all First Thursday events is free and open to the public.

Funding for First Thursday has been generously provided by the Knight Foundation Fund of the Centre County Community Foundation.

Parking is free every evening at the street meters after 6:00 pm, every Thursday after 6:00 pm at the parking lots located on Fraser Street and Beaver Avenue and Allen Street (across from Municipal Building), and the McAllister parking deck. Parking is NOT FREE in the Fraser, Beaver and Pugh Street Garages.

The Centre Area Transportation Authority (CATA) provides FREE BLUE and WHITE LOOP service all evening until 2:30 am every Thursday during Full Service, with service operating every 6–11 minutes. The LOOPs provide circulator service through the University Park Campus and Downtown State College, providing free transportation to all First Thursday activities. First Thursday in September

State College, August 24, 2010 — The Rustlanders bring authentic jazz, roots, and blues to the Hiester St. stage at 7 pm on September 2nd as part of the First Thursday Concert Series. Opening for the Rustlanders will be Pure Cane Sugar. Parking is free that evening at all municipal street meters, the parking lots on Fraser Street and on Beaver Avenue and Allen Street (across from the Municipal Building), and the McAllister parking deck.

5:30–7:30 pm: Spiritual Solutions to Problems. Explore the Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures to find spiritual solutions to life's challenges. Read about others who have had healings of allergies, cancer, migraines, lack of housing or money, etc. Learn how you can experience the same freedom in your life — 218 South Allen Street.

Jezebel’s Boutique

5–8 pm: Ladies Night. Enjoy an evening of games and prizes. As always free appetizers and beverages, and 15% off store wide — 366 East College Avenue.

Palmer Museum

7 pm: Performance: VITA & VIRGINIA By Eileen Atkins. Adapted from correspondence between Virginia Woolf and Vita Sackville-West, VITA & VIRGINIA is a touching story of friendship. This two-woman play features Barbara Korner, dean of the College of Arts and Architecture, as Woolf; and Susan Russell, assistant professor of theatre, as her flamboyant friend, lover, and confidante. Directed by Susan H. Schulman, head of directing for musical theatre. Seating is limited. There will be free parking behind the museum in parking lot Green D.

Penn State University Libraries

4:30 pm: Gallery talk, "Corsets and Cameras: Photography, Bicycling and the New Woman in Turn-of-the-Century America," by Miranda Hofelt-Foster Auditorium, first floor, Paterno Library.

Exhibits:

8 am–midnight:  Exhibit "Corsets and Cameras: Photography, Bicycling and the New Woman in Turn-of-the-Century America." — Henisch Photo-History Collection Exhibit Room, 201A Pattee Library.

Schlow Centre Region Library

7 pm: Tr-HANDS-formation. Using instruments from around the world and around the home, this local musical group delights, inspires and challenges their audiences to find rhythm and music all around them — 211 South Allen Street.
